Application of On-Time Guarantee
TForce Freight offers two options for guaranteed service between Canada and the U.S.
TForce Freight "No-Fee" LTL Guaranteed - TForce Freight’s standard LTL service is backed by an on-time guarantee for shipments rated on the current rules tariff and moving between the continental U.S. and direct points serviced in Canada.
TForce Freight LTL Guaranteed provides guaranteed delivery to or from all service centers in Canada and is available for an additional fee for customers not utilizing a current rules tariff.
- The UPGF 525 (NMFC) and UPGF 580 (Density) rate tariffs offer complete rates for freight transportation between the U.S. and Canada
- The UPGF 570 (NMFC) rate tariff offers complete rates for freight transportation between Mexico and Canada
- Canada rates are accessible through the TForce Freight Rating Software.
- Shipments to Canada are subject to a border processing fee. In addition, Customs Bonded storage charges will apply if a shipment fails to clear customs at the border and must be held for customs release inland.

Customs Clearance / Customs Brokerage / Shipping Documentation to Canada (Northbound)
Necessary documents for Customs Clearance into Canada include a Commercial Invoice showing description of the goods being shipped, and their value specified in U.S. or Canadian funds. A certificate of origin is necessary to take advantage of USMCA duty free provisions. The TForce Freight Export Express form offers a simple, all in one, Canadian shipping document.
Most businesses in Canada involved in international trade engage a customs broker to handle clearance of their shipments at the border. The customs broker validates the commercial information on the documentation, presents the shipment documentation to customs, advances any duty or taxes owed, and provides proof of the Customs entry to their client. Customs brokers charge an entry fee to their client for these services. Entry fees, duties, and taxes are paid by the company contracting the broker, acting as the importer of record.
If your customers in Canada are not typically involved in international trade and do not have a customs broker relationship, or if you want to access Canadian markets selling your product on a delivered basis, with freight, duty, and brokerage paid, consider becoming a Non Resident Importer (NRI). NRI status allows the U.S. company to sell on a more favorable, all in one, landed cost basis. Your customer in Canada does not have to worry about customs brokerage, customs duties, or documentation. Becoming a NRI positions you to compete with domestic Canada suppliers, without the expense of maintaining a distribution network in Canada.
Shipments are cleared at the border crossing using the services of a customs broker via the PARS system. Shipments that fail to clear at the border, or shipments not handled by a customs broker, are forwarded to a customs bonded warehouse and held at destination until customs clearance.
Delivery in Canada
After clearing customs, shipments are available for final delivery in Canada.
TForce Freight provides PARS (Pre-Arrival Review System) and INPARS (Inland Pre-Arrival Review System), a customs clearance process that allows shipments to be cleared immediately upon arrival at the border or a sufferance warehouse. The carrier code for TForce Freight in the PARS system is 2205; so the PARS # on a shipment will be 2205 plus the nine (9) digit TForce Freight PRO Number. The PARS # is used by the Customs Broker to track the shipment through the customs clearance process, and is the shipment identifier to Canada Border Services Agency (CBSA).
Customs Clearance / Customs Brokerage / Shipping Documentation from Canada (Southbound)
Freight service from Canada may originate from any direct point of service in Canada and can be consigned to any direct point of service in the U.S., Puerto Rico, or Mexico.
Border Service / Customs Clearance
Shipments are cleared at the U.S. border crossing using the PAPS process via the services of the U.S. customs broker acting on behalf of the Canadian shipper or on behalf of the U.S. importer. Shipments can also continue in-bond to a designated customs clearance point within the U.S. NOTE: Shipments valued over $800 (USD) cannot enter the U.S. without being processed by a U.S. Customs Broker or by moving under a U.S. Customs Bond.
After clearing customs, shipments are available for final delivery in the U.S.
